We use it as a shoe seat by the back door every morning, and the kids actually fight over who gets to sit on it first. The top is sturdy enough that I don't worry about them hopping on and off, and it swallows a surprising amount of winter blankets when the season changes.
The lid closes with a soft, gentle thud, so little fingers won't get slammed. We've got it piled with stuffed animals and throw blankets in the living room, and it honestly looks like a piece of furniture instead of a plastic bin. Great buy for the money.
